Prospective Teachers Honored

WINONA LAKE - The Indiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education recognized four Grace College teacher education majors April 4 in Carmel at the organization's Recognition Day for Outstanding Future Educators.

Each member college or university nominates its student teachers that have excelled in their entire education program - especially in their student teaching assignments.Recipient of the award for the elementary level was Rebecca Baldwin, daughter of Lee and Brenda Knepper, Red Lion, Pa., who student taught at Harrison Elementary School under the supervision of Ethel Ringle.

Winning the award for the secondary school level was Luke Sefton, son of Julie Sefton, Fort Wayne, who student taught at Columbia City High School under Matt Moore.

Ryan Kline, son of Randy and Janna Kline, Ashland, Ohio, won the award for his work in special education. He student taught under Sue Mock and Barb Martz at Eisenhower Elementary School.

For all-grade education, winning the award was Lindsay Weller, daughter of Patti and Wayne Weller, Garrett. Weller student taught at DeKalb Middle School and Churubusco Elementary School under the supervision of Jamie Curtis and Susan Merriman.

Honorable mention in elementary education was given to Megan Davis, daughter of Randy and Laurie Owen, Winona Lake; Megan Downs, daughter of Dan and Barb Downs, Brookville, Ohio; and Ruth Shimek, daughter of Jim and Roxanne Shimek, Highland.

Abbie Proud, daughter of Ray and Sandy Proud, Waterloo, was given honorable mention for secondary education; and Toni Pyle, daughter of Pete and Bonnie Pyle, Taylor, Mich., was given honorable mention for all-grade education.
