Prosecutor Warns Of Nigeria Scam

Posted

The Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office is warning county residents of an "improper solicitation" being made by a man who calls himself Dr. Rotimi Roberts of Lagos, Nigeria.

Roberts reportedly solicits the use of local citizens' bank accounts for allegedly transferring monies from Nigeria through that account to be disbursed shortly afterward. He offers the accountholder a 20 percent incentive for use of the account.

The solicitation is referred to as the "Nigerian Letter." However, the prosecutor's office said the Nigerian government has publicly disavowed any responsibility for these letters. The FBI and U.S. Secret Service are investigating to determine the source of the letters.

If you have received such a letter or know anyone who has, contact the prosecutor's office at 372-2419 so they can refer the matter to the FBI and the Secret Service.
