Changes in the Kosciusko County prosecutor's office for 1997 will include new personnel and an increased emphasis on town meetings.

Because chief deputy prosecutor Joe Sutton will become a superior court judge in January, county prosecutor David Kolbe said Tuesday he will announce a new chief deputy in December.

Kolbe also said deputy prosecutor Jim Walmer, who manages the child support enforcement office part-time, resigned that position after the Kosciusko County Council increased the job to full-time. His replacement will be announced in December.

Finding out the concerns of the smaller towns in the county is the purpose of Kolbe's renewed emphasis on town meetings.

However, when asked if one reason for the town meetings is because he is considering a run at future political office, he said, "At this point I'm leaning toward seeking a second term in office."

A second person will be added to the victims' assistance office in January following the approval of a grant from the state to fund the position, Kolbe said. The grant requires a 25 percent match from the prosecutor's office, which Kolbe said would not be a problem.

He said the victims' assistance office now helps only victims of personal crimes, such as rape, assault and battery. He has proposed an executive assistant that would help victims of property crimes, and said he will fund that position with a grant as well.
