Proposed Renovations Discussed

WINONA LAKE - Moving the town's police station and town offices into a renovated Quonset hut depends on how the town pays for the renovations, the town council said Tuesday.

With an estimated cost of $250,000 to $300,000, the renovation options include finding funding sources to do all the renovations at once, or doing them in stages as funding becomes available, council president Brent Wilcoxson said.

However, Retha Hicks, the town's clerk-treasurer, said if the town offices stay at the community building at the city park, even temporarily, that building needs major changes to make it handicapped accessible.

Most council members agreed that they would prefer to do the entire project at once, and asked for more accurate cost estimates, possible funding sources and capital budget requests from town departments.

The council also passed an ordinance approving the installation of stop signs at the intersections of Chestnut and Fourth streets and Chestnut and First streets.

Town council will meet next at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the community building.
