Public Defender Scott J. Lennox pleaded the court for his client, Jessica Fields, 29, to be given mercy by the court and accept her plea deal.
On Thursday morning, Kosciusko County Circuit Court Judge Rex Reed agreed to the terms of the plea deal, but did not let her off without any time in prison.
Fields was charged with two counts of dealing methamphetamine, one count of possession of methamphetamine and one count of possession of two or more chemical reagents with intent to manufacture a controlled substance.
Through her plea deal, counts one through three were dismissed and she was sentenced to 1-1/2 years in prison, the advisory sentence for the Class D felony of possession of two or more chemical reagents.
She was given credit for 15 days in jail and ordered to pay a $200 drug interdiction fee, a $100 fine, court costs and repay the county for the cost of her lawyer in the matter. Reed also ordered random drug testing for Fields and set the sentencing concurrent to that of her case she has been sentenced to in Whitley County.
Reed mandated that any form of sentence past April 28, 2012, be suspended and she be placed on probation for the remainder of the sentence.
Lennox pleaded the court to take into consideration the circumstances of the matter.
“Take into consideration the responsibility taken in the case,” Lennox said. “She has learned a very valuable lesson, that she has kids that she has to take care of and she wants to get custody of those children again.”
Further, Lennox asked Reed for a second chance.
“Give Miss Fields an opportunity and a chance to fulfill her opportunity and be a good mother,” Lennox said.
