Editor, Times-Union:

On Tuesday, March 9, you published my e-mail letter of inquiry about the emergency evacuation route signs posted along major streets in Warsaw. To date, I have seen no responses to my questions. I must surmise that this means: A) No one cares enough to respond, B) Everyone knows the answers but me, or C) No one else has any idea why the signs are there.

Now, if my letter had registered a complaint about Obama, Bush, health care, the economy, or the amount of coverage the Times-Union affords to any local athletic events or issues, I believe responses would have appeared in droves from all the usual suspects - including the editors of our fine newspaper.

My March 9 letter was not meant to be funny. Emergency evacuation would not be a laughing matter. I hereby repeat my questions:

1. What kind of emergency would require evacuation?

2. How would the citizenry hear of such an emergency?

3. How would we know which route to take?

4. What would we do once we left the city?

5. What about those of us who do not live in the city? Do we sit tight? Do we find one of the evacuation routes and follow it?

6. Shouldn't there be a written set of directions to follow in the event an emergency evacuation is warranted?

7. Shouldn't those directions be posted somewhere? (Like maybe in the local newspaper - on a regular basis?)

Somebody paid for those signs. Somebody was paid to put the signs in place. Who are these somebodies, and what do they know that I don't know?

Come on, investigative reporters. Investigate.
