With the filing deadline less than a week away, just a handful of Republicans have thrown their name in the hat for the May 3 primary, but there will be at least two contested races at the county level. Filing ends at noon Friday, and no Democrats have filed. Four Republicans are seeking the three county council at-large seats. Along with current county Treasurer Sue Ann Mitchell, Warsaw, the candidates are incumbent Robert G. “Bob” Sanders, Warsaw; Tressa Nichols, North Webster; and Evan J. McKinley, Leesburg. The other Republican contested race pits incumbent Commissioner Northern District Brad Jackson, Syracuse, against Marcia A. Baumgartner, Milford. Uncontested races as of yesterday afternoon include: clerk of Circuit Court, Ann M. Torpy, Mentone, incumbent; commissioner middle district, Ronald D. Truex, Warsaw, incumbent; surveyor, Michael Kissinger, North Webster, incumbent; treasurer, Rhonda J. Helser, Warsaw; and coroner, Anthony W. Ciriello, Milford, incumbent.
