We’re all still reeling over the news of the tornados that swept through the nation’s heartland early Saturday morning. The news footage of the devastation is absolutely mind-boggling and difficult to comprehend. Sadly, the loss of life is estimated at 100. The interviews with friends and family members of those lost are heart-wrenching.
By Sunday morning my thoughts turned to wondering what I could do to help. Others obviously had the same thought as soon the stories of outsiders jumping in to help were now in the news. They arrived with chainsaws, heavy equipment and their bare hands. Families prepared sack lunches an brought clothing and other needed necessities.
Soon, my thoughts turned to COVID and how we mourn the loss of 100 innocent tornado victims while we currently mourn the loss of 1,000 COVID victims per day, most of which could have easily been prevented. Nationwide, just over 60% of the population has been vaccinated. Of the 1,000 deaths per day, over 90% are unvaccinated. That’s 900 deaths per day that could have been prevented.
I’ve heard all the reasons why people don’t take the shot. I just can’t wrap my head around it. Perhaps 1% are viable. For everyone else, just get the shot. When you die, regardless of the reason, you leave a void. You are a father or mother or brother or sister and you will be missed when you’re gone. As the saying goes, “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.” Please consider being part of the solution.
