Presby Preschool Donates To First UMC’s Community ClosetStudents at Presby Preschool dropped off donations to First United Methodist Church’s Community Closet in Warsaw Wednesday and today.

Pastor Brian Smith said the donation helps support the outreach the church does through its Community Closet. The pantry is open every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A meal is provided during that time through a different church. Any donations can be dropped off at the church Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Jeff Peck, director of Presby Preschool, said there were three drop-offs between the two days - one Wednesday morning, one Wednesday afternoon and one Thursday morning. There are students who are only at the preschool during the morning or only in the afternoon, so the multiple drop-offs were to accommodate those students.

There are about 13 classes and 181 children that dropped off donations to First United Methodist. Peck said the preschool asked parents to pick out things. Some parents go shopping with their children for the items and the preschool gives parents a list of types of things that could be donated. Some parents brought in a container of something, while others brought in bags of items to donate.

Students took over one item each and the preschool staff took over the rest of the donations later on, he said.

Smith said the students can see where people come through to collect items from the Community Closet and can see how it can help the community.

Peck said Presby Preschool talks to the children a lot about gratitude, especially in November, and then in December they talk about gifts and generosity. The children get to see exactly where the donations go.

“It’s much more tangible like that,” Peck said.

He also said the students love doing the donation. He had a mother tell him her son told his older brother he was going to walk across the street and take things to people who needed them.
