Prep Roundup: Squire Netters Win On Senior Night

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester boys tennis team was strong on senior night with a 4-1 win Monday against the visiting Columbia City Eagles.

The Squires’ lineup was entirely made up of seniors.

“They all played well being ahead most of the night, then being down a decent amount, to fighting back and winning,” said Manchester coach Calvin Sellers. “This is a great group of guys, and they will be missed as our season nears the end.”

Manchester’s Luke Donathan won 6-0, 5-7, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Spence Trick pulled out a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.

Kyle Shepherd won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for the Squires (5-5).

The No. 1 doubles team of Logan Parrett and Kamdyn Lester won 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).

Manchester’s lone loss of the night came 3-6, 6-7 (5-7) at No. 2 doubles, though Sellers commended the effort of Grant Strobel and Parker York.



Trojans Lose To Lions

BREMEN – Triton found success in the doubles matches, but lost 3-2 in a boys tennis match Monday at Bremen.

The Trojans’ Carter Kuntz and Chase Butler won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Triton’s No. 2 doubles duo of Tyler Heckaman and Grant Elb won 6-1, 6-3.

Triton is 6-10. The Trojans lost the JV match 3-1.



Warsaw Netters Fall To Concord

DUNLAP – The Warsaw boys tennis team finished regular season play with a 5-0 loss Monday in a Northern Lakes Conference match at Concord.

The No. 1 doubles team of Nolan Knight and Spencer Britton took their match to three sets in a valiant effort. They lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

The Tigers will play Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in the NLC Tournament at Plymouth.



Wawasee Gets Blanked By NorthWood

SYRACUSE – The Wawasee boys tennis team was swept 5-0 Monday in a home Northern Lakes Conference match against NorthWood.

The Warriors (6-10, 1-6 NLC) will play Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in the NLC Tournament at Plymouth.



Whitko Blanked By West Noble

LIGONIER – The Whitko boys tennis team was shut out 5-0 Monday at West Noble.

Whitko’s Aiden Hoffman fought hard and took his singles match to three sets.

The Wildcats will host Tippecanoe Valley today at 5 p.m.



Tigers Tie With Bruins

The Warsaw boys soccer team was strong defensively in a 1-1 tie Monday against Fort Wayne Northrop in a home match.

“Our defense did an outstanding job this evening, keeping our opponent off-balanced and on the run,” said Warsaw coach Frank Courtois.

After a scoreless first half, Blake Burns netted a goal in the second.

Northrop evened the score on a penalty kick.

The Tigers (8-2-4) had multiple chances to score after that, but did not finish.

Warsaw will play Thursday at 7:15 p.m. in a Northern Lakes Conference match at Goshen.



Lady Squires Fall To Rival Rochester

ROCHESTER – Emma Garriott netted a goal, but the Manchester girls soccer team fell 4-1 Monday at Rochester.

Garriott’s goal was assisted by Haylie Miller.

Manchester will play Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a home match against Maconaquah.



Whitko Slighted By Central Noble

ALBION – The Whitko girls soccer team lost 2-0 Monday at Central Noble.

The Lady Wildcats gave up one goal each half, both on penalty kicks.

Julifa Seifert was in the net with eight saves for Whitko.



Lady Squires Struggle At Rochester

ROCHESTER – Alyssa Marvel tallied 12 assists and eight aces, but the Manchester JV volleyball team lost 24-25, 25-16, 13-15 Monday at Rochester.

Blake Drasny had five kills and 13 digs for the Lady Squires, while Allison Zartman had seven kills and six digs and Morgan Parrett recorded six digs.
