SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko’s varsity softball team gave up 15 runs over three innings Friday and fell 15-2 to Whitley County rival Columbia City. The Eagles, trailing 2-0 at the time, scored six runs in the top of the third inning and added four in the fourth and five more in the fifth. Whitko scored its two runs in the second inning, as Kennedy Krull hit a solo home run and Whitney Marsh drove in a teammate with a double. Columbia City pounded out 11 hits in the five-inning win, while Whitko had five hits. Aly Nicodemus gave up six hits and was charged with the loss in the circle. She was replaced by teammate Hanna Yohe, who gave up five hits. The Lady Wildcats are in action again Monday when they travel to Huntertown to play Carroll. Baseball Friday in Ossian Wawasee’s varsity baseball team gave up seven runs in the first two innings Friday and suffered its first loss of the season, falling 9-0 at Norwell. The host Knights scored their final two runs in the sixth inning. With the loss, the Warriors fell to 5-1 on the season. Andrew Wright was charged with the loss after working four innings, giving up seven earned runs.
