A semi overturned on Ind. 15 early this morning, spilling asphalt across the road. The driver, Dale Abell, from Pierceton Trucking Company, told police he was trying to avoid hitting a deer when the semi overturned. Abell was ejected from the cab of the semi, but escaped the accident without injury. Haz-Mat crews worked until 7 a.m. to clean up the 38,000 pounds of asphalt the truck was carrying. The southbound lane of Ind. 15 was closed while crews cleaned up. The accident occurred at 4:30 this morning on Ind. 15, south of CR 950S, near Silver Lake. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident. The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department helped with the cleanup. The road was reopened to traffic late this morning. Photo by Gary Nieter, Times-Union
