Praying

Editor, Times-Union:
I want to comment on Leo Boyer’s article on “Public Prayer.”

Thank you, Leo, for publishing such a good article. I agree, Christians need to “let their light shine” in a wicked and perverse generation and we are called to be “the salt of the earth.”

As far as praying in public, I for one, have never felt comfortable in doing so, but the Bible says there is a time for everything: (Ecclesiastes 3)(v.7b) “a time to keep silent and a time to speak”. If the Spirit leads, then the time is right to speak. Prayer is “speaking to God” and sometimes it is on other’s behalf, and in a group. Let’s not forget, it took one woman “speaking out” to get prayer out of schools!

Well, you say that is not praying in public. It all starts by taking away our freedom of speech. Obama already made a new policy that No U.S. serviceman can speak at any faith-based public events anymore. Is that not taking away our freedom of speech? Next he will be “sneaking” in a policy that says we cannot pray anywhere in public. He gives no allegiance to God whatsoever.

I see him as a “sheep in wolves clothing”. He is sly and pulls the wool over the public’s eyes easily. Regardless of our party affiliation, we should sit up and take notice. We have already lost 50 percent of our freedom of speech in the last two years. I don’t know about you, but to me that is a scary thing.

You’re right, Leo, each of us has a “choice” between Obama hope and God hope. I choose God hope.

Our country has only been blessed in the past because our government has honored God in its dealings. I believe since God has been taken out of our government He has removed His hand of blessing on our nation. Why, to open the eyes of its people. (I am not saying that God has removed His presence from individual people, as we know, if we are born-again Christians, He lives in our hearts) but as a nation. God will not reside where He is not welcome!

But there is hope. (II Chronicles 7:14) “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will ‘heal their land.’ This is taken from the Old Testament, but I believe it still holds true today.
