Pray, Not Belittle

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

I'm happy to say that I am very thankful for Helen Hoy extending her prayers out to our nation and the world in these times of tribulation. I do, however, feel that many people posting on here need a second sermon.

It is sad that we focus on the minority of people who "kill our unborn and call it choice" and "reward laziness and call it welfare" while the majority condemns our brothers and sisters and calls it religion. As a Christian, I am saddened that we have become so focused on what we are against that we have forgotten who we are for. While the very meaning of the word Christian is Christ-like, it seems that fellow followers of my faith and those like it have provided an example that is the furthest thing from Him.

Jesus taught many things in the Bible, "the greatest of these is love," and I am disappointed that many of the posts I have read on here are lacking in this attribute.

Let us remember in this holiday season, Mr. Voisinet, that Jesus not only laid down His life for you and I, but also for the young men and women who choose to exploit their bodies and each others. If Jesus, King of Kings, still loves them, what makes us think we are too good, too righteous to do the same? Your opinions are very much value, Sir, but I respectfully suggest that in the future, instead of using your hands to post those opinions on this county newspaper, you raise them in prayer for those who have to deal with some decisions you may never have to make. Heaven knows we all could use one.
