Recent Warsaw Com-munity High School graduate Jake Poyner has been pretty busy the past month. Following up his third place finish in the 1600 and fifth-place finish in the 3200 at the May 31 IHSAA boys track and field state finals, Poyner won 3200-meter run in 9:09.80 at the June 15 Midwest Meet of Champions at Fort Wayne Northrop. Instead of slowing down, he continues to go. Now competing in the Junior Division at 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, Poyner ran the 1500 in 3:51.75 Friday, advancing to today’s finals. In his heat of the opening round, Justin Brinkley, who’ll be running at Stanford University won in 3:49.90, followed by Sean McGorty’s 3:51.16, Darren Fahy’s 3:51.54 and Poyner, who will be running at Wake Forest University.
