WINONA LAKE – The Third Annual Poverty Cycle Challenge hosted by Second Mile Adventures and KCV Cycling Club will be Sept. 17 at the Old Chicago Boys Club Trails in Winona Lake. Second Mile Adventures, KCV Cycling Club, Second Mile Missions and Fellowship Missions are uniting to fight poverty at home and abroad. The event began in 2009, when brothers Brent and Rod Wildman decided to hold an event to bring people in the community together to help fight poverty in the Dominican Republic. While each organization has separately conducted poverty awareness, fundraising and relief efforts in the past, this year the four groups joined together to provide this festival-type event that will educate and challenge all participants and spectators. All are encouraged to participate, watch, spread the word or make a donation to the cause. Music, food and drinks will be available onsite, and prizes will be drawn for event participants. The events include a Hunger 5K Trail Run/Walk, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and Pedal 2 Prevent Poverty Road Cycling Tours (10-, 20-, 40-, 60- and 100-mile routes), beginning at 8:45 a.m.Winona Solo Team Mountain Bike Relay Race begins at 11 a.m. Pre-register and save $10.
