Potpourri: Warsaw Grad Sinks Teeth Into State Politics

Posted
Zack Sand, a 2012 Warsaw Community High School graduate, is fully embracing life in state politics, shifting this month from campaign work to the legislative side.

The 25-year-old just wrapped up work with the Senate Majority campaign committee, served as a campaign manager for State Sen.  Travis Holdman during the primary and then helped run Andy  Zay’s campaign this fall in the District 17 Senate race. Zay won by a 71-29 margin. The 17th district includes all of Wabash County, much of Whitley County, and parts of Huntington and Grant counties.

Zay replaced Jim Banks after Banks became a U.S. congressman representing the 3rd District.

Sand, who graduated with a public policy degree from Indiana  University Fort Wayne, will work as a legislative assistant for Zay and another lawmaker in the General Assembly.

He was recently selected to participate in the Indiana Leadership Forum.

A final thought – Last week, Mayor Joe Thallemer was on the receiving end of a twisted attack by Warsaw Community Facebook page.

The folks behind the controversial Facebook page spend much of their efforts attacking Thallemer, but were criticized by Indiana Public Access Counselor Luke Britt, who accused the page of twisting facts from a letter he had issued to the city and former city councilman Kyle Babcock.

Thallemer has shied away from outwardly attacking the people behind the page, including Chad Zartman, who has been the only one of four apparent administrators willing to come forward and admit their roles.

But Thallemer did offer one cutting comment: “What’s disturbing is the ongoing negative, distorted postings without ever any offer of alternative solutions.”

Zartman told the Times-Union last Saturday that he is no longer associated with the page.
