Pollution

Editor, Times-Union:

On Jan. 20, the U.S. Senate will be voting on an amendment that will strip the EPA's ability to limit most carbon pollution. This proposal's goal is to render the Clean Air Act impotent; even though it's been mandated by the U.S. Supreme Court and is recommended by both scientists and public health experts.

And we have Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski to thank for this - and her co-authors from energy companies' lobbyists. Murkowski and her lobbyist allies want to gut the Clean Air Act and give the worst polluters a free pass when it comes to contaminating the air our families breathe and the water we drink.

Please contact your senators and let them know we believe a vote for this Dirty Air Act is a vote for backroom deals and polluters, and that we will all be watching how they vote. The Senate should be working harder to find ways to truly lessen our dependence on foreign oil and strengthen our domestic sources of clean energy.
