Posted

NEW PARIS - Dennis Polk Equipment, 72435 Ind. 15, New Paris, sustained more than $700,000 in damages to a building from a fire Friday.

Five fire departments were kept busy for more than five hours to put out the fire.

A little after 11 p.m. Friday, the New Paris Fire Department responded to a fire call at the business. Flames and smoke were coming from the building when the department arrived at the scene.

Due to windy conditions, the fire quickly spread through the 9,000-square-foot building. Approximately 800,000 gallons of water were used to douse the flames.

While the cause of fire is still under investigation, the fire may have started as a result of a lightning strike, according to officials.

Approximately 55 firefighters from Nappanee, Milford, Foraker and Elkhart Township fire departments assisted.

The fire is considered a total loss.
