Politicians The Problem

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:
Gary Gerard was right in his May 11 News Views, that our problems are not left versus right. We have a tendency to think that politicians that are like us are OK regardless of what they do. We do not look too closely at their actions because we think they must have good reasons for what they are doing. When George Bush raised the size and scope of the government, people like us in fly-over country did not holler too much. Now that Barack Obama is raising the size and scope of the government, those we call liberals are not bothered much. I feel our real political problems are about the size and scope of our government. A large intrusive government that abuses power at the expense of the citizens can and has been left- (Stalin) or right- (Hitler) leaning in the past.
I would like to focus on the IRS’s getting caught targeting conservative groups. In the past the IRS got caught targeting liberal groups. The real problem is the IRS is too large and too powerful. Yesterday it was liberal groups, today it is conservative groups, and tomorrow who will it be?
We should all be fearful for our kids and grandkids, since Obamacare is going to be administerd by the same IRS that has abused power and targeted all kinds of Americans. Can we trust the IRS to administer Obamacare to our posterity? No we can not and we must not.
Any time government power increases, it comes at the expense of the people’s freedom and liberty. One easy solution to stopping future IRS abuse of power is to get rid of the income tax system all together and replace it with a national sales tax, the Fair Tax. With the Fair Tax, there is no big government tax agency that abuses the people.
Your paycheck would be larger, without the withholding to the IRS. Our economy would grow, as everything not spend would automatically be tax deferred.
