Political Parties

Editor, Times-Union:

Well, here I go again. I have been doing a bit of thinking why Congress has what I call trouble (one party against the other). I think, I a Republican, can see good over the years past from both parties. I'm not sure but I think the Democrats introduced Social Security. I thank God for it. I think McCain wants to give $5,000 to, I guess, everyone to buy their own health insurance. Some already have paid by the company they work for. Second, when a person buys health insurance as individual, one does not get as good as with a group plan. Also, I do not think everyone is good shoppers regarding health insurance.

I think I have heard/read from great men during the past that "a Republic does not flourish well if it's a combination of non-Christians and Christians. It only does well if all are true Christians." What is a true Christian? I would say, "If and when there is love for your brother" ... "for love will cover a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8.

One man that stands out in my mind in Congress today is Joe Lieberman. It appears to me he is not satisfied with either party.

Why, the forestalling, heeing and hawing regarding bills by the speaker? Why can one person keep a bill from going forth for a vote? I think a bill should be passed in Congress saying, "A bill cannot be held from going to the floor for a vote longer than two months." I think sometimes one is held as long as two years. That's terrible. Then perhaps forgotten.

A good Christian counselor should teach Congress that what one party stands for affects both parties. It is better to be good Americans than a Democrat or Republican, especially when a Congressman.
