If George Washington was able to address the American people, he would remind us that during his farewell address, he said: "One of the expedients of party to acquire influence within particular districts is to misrepresent the opinions and aims of other districts."
President Washington warned us that partisan division would disrupt America's potential for greatness in the community of nations. We need more politicians like Washington, who did not want to be President - but took office reluctantly because he believed the words of the Declaration of Independence and that, "all men are created equal, and they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
Washington held steadfast to his faith in God, faith in country and faith in people yet unborn that the United States would be the groundwork for freedom.
Today, we are a country rife with political division yet someone is directing their distrust at only one political party. He says that the Republicans bailed out banks, this is true; but the Democrats bailed out two housing agencies that they created, at least two auto industries, and continued to bail out banks that the Republicans started. He says that when America asked for health care reform, the Republicans stood by big insurance, yet the Democrats passed a bill that mandates that Americans purchase health insurance.
I am fairly sure that Walmart does not sell health insurance, so they will have to buy it from a big insurance agency, so wasn't it the Democrats who stood with the health insurance agencies in passing a health care bill that the American people did not want then, and certainly do not want now?
He says that the Republicans are standing by those "too big to fail" banks, yet it was the Democrats who poured hundreds of billions of dollars into those banks and now have the power to break up companies, "too big to fail?" He also points out the moral misgivings of the Republicans - yet does not mention John Edwards, Bill Clinton, Gary Condit, and Elliot Spitzer among others. Lastly, he points outs that the GOP started two wars that were unwinnable, yet it was a Democrat who promised to bring our soldiers home yet to move back the withdrawal dates further and further down the line to two wars that we should not have engaged with in the first place.
This country needs a revival and eventual rebirth. The fundamental return of this country to the bounds on which this Republic was founded is needed to restore America's greatness.
Faith in God, faith in country, faith in man is what is needed by the American people. We do not need faith in political parties because the political parties are eating away the greatness of America.
Benjamin Franklin told a woman in Philadelphia after the ratification of the Constitution that we were given, "A Republic Ma'am, if you can keep it."
Well, will we keep our Republic? The choice is ours.
