Political Earthquake

Editor, Times-Union:

The earthquake was over. Scott Brown was ready to give his "victory speech" in Boston. While another 6.1 earthquake hit poor Haiti, the political earthquake of the century hit the U.S. It was 10 p.m. and I was ready for bed, but was curious to learn what the heir to "Ted Kennedy's Senate Seat" from Massachusetts would say.

Scott was really "revved up," along with the big screaming crowd in Boston.

The acceptance speech lasted about an hour because the crowd interrupted him so often, but I was glad he "hung in there" because he was speaking to the nation from his heart, telling us what he planned to do when he got in his pickup truck and headed to Washington. With fun and good humor Scott told us that he just had a congratulatory call from President Obama and he accepted his congratulations. Then he outlined the conservative principles the new administration in Washington had been violating that he intended to help set straight.

"This is not a victory for the people of the small state of Massachusetts, but a victory for we the people of the United States of America and our freedoms that are being trampled on."

This fiery patriot from New England was the first Republican to be elected to national office from Massachusetts since 1972. And I think I hear about a million of you solid granite conservatives out there saying, "Well, it's about time."

Well, maybe so, only let me caution: "Pride and arrogance precede destruction" ... and that Biblical law is "no respecter of persons or political party."
