Most have read the articles about the issues between the sheriff's department and the Warsaw Police Department.
When this situation first came to light, I called the mayor's office and the head commissioner's office to suggest that a third party be involved in cleaning up the problem. This could be a joint review board, with help from the Department of Justice, the FBI, the State Police or a combination.
The public pays for and deserves the protection provided by these two departments. When they are at war with each other, it makes it hard for them to work together to solve crime and enforcement issues.
Reliable sources have claimed that Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine was set up. If true, the officer or officers involved should be removed. The mayor, city council and the county commissioners need to research this situation thoroughly. How long will it be until another issue arises?
Attempting to sweep this problem under the rug and thinking everything will be fine will not work. We have excellent officers in both departments. It is not fair to the officers in either department to be under a cloud of suspicion and distrust. It is also not fair for county and city residents to have a situation like this continue.
I call on the mayor and the city council to work with the county commissioners to resolve this problem once and for all.
