Police Seek Information On Ransacked House

Posted

Warsaw police are seeking information on a house that was ransacked less than 24 hours after a fire there.

An electrical problem caused a fireTuesday at the home of Rick and Jewel Craft, 213 Ra-Mar Drive, Warsaw. The fire was contained to a utility room, resulting in $5,000 damage.

After gathering some clothing later Tuesday, the family left the house around 10 p.m. to stay in a local hotel. On Wednesday, Jewel Craft returned to the residence and found it was ransacked sometime during the night. She immediately went to a neighbor's house to call police.

A television was tipped over and a hanging picture and VCR were on the floor. A coffee table was overturned, as was a computer desk with the computer. The window air conditioner was on the floor. A utility room door was pulled from its hinges and there were holes in walls and doors.

According to the WPD report, it is believed entry was gained through a window where a board was removed and an air conditioner unit pushed in.

Along with damage, several items, including money, were stolen. Liquid, believed to be alcohol, was poured into all of the electrical equipment.

Warsaw Fire Chief Matt Warren reported that the inside of the house was not damaged in the fire and the fire was confined to the utility room and attic.

A neighbor reportedly saw a truck parked outside the residence late Tuesday night, but was unable to identify the type of truck or how many occupants were in the vehicle.

There are no suspects.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Warsaw Police Department.
