Police Say Stabbing Was Self-Inflicted

Warsaw Police Department investigators have closed their investigation into Thursday’s alleged stabbing and determined that the stab wounds the 54-year-old female victim suffered were self-inflicted.
According to a WPD press release, officers and EMS were dispatched to the 400 block of South High Street around 8:30 p.m. Thursday and found the woman lying in the entry of her upstairs apartment with injuries to her stomach.
The victim initially told officers that she had just returned home, unlocked her apartment, carried two bags inside to her kitchen and went back out to retrieve a bottle of Pepsi®. She stated she then saw two men in her apartment who demanded her wallet and car keys.
The victim alleged she gave them her wallet and was searching for her keys when she was stabbed. She stated the men then fled south from the apartment. She told police the men were wearing ski masks, black clothes and gloves.
On Friday, WPD released a second statement saying investigators determined through interviews and admissions that the entire incident was fabricated by the victim.
There are no suspects at large. It is undetermined at this time if false reporting charges will be pursued and the victim will remain anonymous.
