Police Release Details on Attempted Robbery Suspect

LEESBURG – Police have released additional information about an attempted robbery of the Freedom Express convenience store Friday night in Leesburg. According to a press release, the suspect, believed to be a teenaged caucasian male, was possibly between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 7 inches tall. Video enhancement from surveillance footage determined that the suspect was also wearing a black or dark blue zip-up jacket with what appears to be a white Air Jordan or Nike logo embroidered on the front, along with a white zipper and white striping near the shoulders. KCSD deputies responded Friday around 9:20 p.m. to the store at 201 S. Main St., Leesburg, and were told that the suspect entered the business and attempted to rob the cashier. The suspect was denied and fled the business. A weapon was not displayed, according to officers on the scene. The suspect was last seen running eastbound on Prairie Street in Leesburg. A K-9 unit from the Winona Lake Police Department initially tracked the suspect east of Freedom Express along Prairie Street, then to an alley before ending near the downtown area of Leesburg.
