Editor, Times-Union:
Am I the only one that believes that our law enforcement should stop high-speed pursuits?
The last pursuit that I can remember ended the same way — a color picture on the front page of the Times-Union. Two young people speeding on U.S. 30 crashed their car into another vehicle, which endangered an innocent life. The two young people were supposedly shoplifting in a big box store. They died at the scene. Was this pursuit worth two young lives?
Another concern with pursuits is, no matter how much training the officer may have, they still may cause an accident with a bystander, damage property or injury, or die in the process.
The most famous pursuit involved a white Bronco, but no one was either hurt or killed.
The public expects our law enforcement personnel “to serve and protect” all citizens.
