Finger Bitten Off By Dog At Leesburg
LEESBURG - A 1-month-old Ohio girl lost a finger after being bit by a dog in Leesburg Saturday.
According to a report at the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, the infant's aunt, Gail Sullivan, of Geneva, Ill., said she was trying to calm the baby down as the family was getting ready to eat at a restaurant in Leesburg. Sullivan, and the baby, Brooke Sullivan, of Springboro, Ohio, walked onto property at 306 Wallace St., owned by Joe A. Winterrowd, and walked near a kennel where a dog was.
Sullivan stated that the child somehow got its right pinky finger inside the kennel, and the dog bit the finger off. Sullivan stated that dog was never aggressive, growling or barking before the incident.
The child was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital and then taken to St. Vincent Children's Hospital in Indianapolis to try and reattach the finger.
Winterrowd told police the dog was up to date on its shots and is properly documented.
