Two area males were jailed after they allegedly robbed the First State Bank of Bourbon Friday morning.

Corey Michael Mullins, 20, of Macy and Michael Douglas Nethercutt, 18, of Akron, were apprehended near Warsaw shortly after the robbery took place in Bourbon.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, one armed suspect reportedly entered the bank about 11 a.m. and robbed it of an undisclosed amount of money while brandishing a long gun. Bourbon police responded to an alarm from the bank and got a description of the suspect and the vehicle in which he fled.

Police radio traffic indicated the suspects were headed toward Kosciusko County, and officers were able to place the vehicle in the area of Ind. 19 and CR 100S by about 11:15 a.m. Two witnesses flagged down a Kosciusko County deputy and said they saw the suspect's vehicle eastbound on CR 100S, with the second witness also telling police another man tumbled out of the vehicle near Rozella Ford Golf Course and money was blowing around in the area.

Cpl. Eric Coburn of the Warsaw Police Department first spotted the vehicle near the intersection of Ind. 25 and CR 100S and noticed the driver look directly at him, both as they passed each other and in the rearview mirror after they passed. Coburn then turned around and followed the vehicle until additional officers were able to get to the area for backup. The black Chevrolet Blazer was stopped on Ind. 15 at CR 400S.

Police said the driver, Mullins, was ordered to shut the vehicle off and throw the keys out. Mullins shut off the Blazer, opened the door and "threw himself onto the roadway spread eagle," according to a WPD report. When asked what he was doing in the area, Mullins reportedly told police he was en route home from Bourbon, where he had picked up his last check from an employer there because he'd gotten a job closer to home. He then told police who else had been with him and started to cry, saying, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do it."

Police found Nethercutt lying in weeds about 12 feet from the roadway along CR 100S. Police recovered more than $1,200 in cash from along the road, plus $200 from one of Nethercutt's socks.

Information as to which of the two actually entered the bank was not available. A shotgun was reportedly found in the rear of the vehicle. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Both of the robbery suspects were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail, where they are being held in lieu of bond on charges of armed robbery.

Warsaw, Kosciusko County and Indiana State Police officers took part in the apprehension of the suspects and assisted Marshall County in the investigation. Argos, Plymouth and Bremen officers provided assistance in Marshall County.
