Police Identify Body Found Near Dewart

SYRACUSE - The body found in a ditch near Dewart Lake last week has been identified.

On Wednesday, the body was found off the east side of CR 400E, just south of CR 1050N, Syracuse. The body was identified as William R. Edmundson, 40, Syracuse, after an autopsy was performed Friday.Edmundson was positively identified by the Indiana State Police Laboratory from fingerprints taken during the autopsy, which was performed late Friday in Fort Wayne.

The cause of death was not determined from the autopsy, but samples have been sent out for toxicology testing. Authorities hope that the results from the report will determine the cause of death.

Indiana State Poilce Detective Aaron Campbell said the death does not appear to be a homicide. There were no signs of trauma to the body at the time of death.

Campbell also said it was apparent that someone had dumped Edmundson's body in the field, and the state police are determined to identify anyone who was involved. The investigation of the incident is ongoing at this time.
