NORTH MANCHESTER - North Manchester chief of police operations, Linda Learned, died this morning at Wabash Community Hospital.

According to North Manchester town manager Dan Hannaford, Learned, 51, was transported by ambulance to WCH around 7:30 a.m. today after a concerned friend discovered her ill in her home.

Emergency medical technicians worked to revive Learned, using a defibrillator, Hannaford said, before transporting her to the hospital.

Officer Steve Olsen said the police force as a whole is "shocked and sorrowful" at the unexpected death of Learned. According to Olsen, Learned was just released from the hospital Wednesday, on an undisclosed but probably unrelated illness, and was expected to recover and continue operations as planned. Cause of death is undetermined and an autopsy is expected to be performed.

Learned has served the North Manchester Police Department for 20 years, and served as chief since April 1999.
