MILFORD - A Syracuse woman was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail early Sunday after allegedly leading police on a pursuit that ended when she crashed into a house.
Nicole Kristine Lightner, 21, of 513 Railside Drive, Syracuse, is charged with resisting or fleeing law enforcement, reckless driving, criminal recklessness, criminal mischief, driving while suspended, speeding, driving left of center and disregarding a stop sign. She is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on $350 bond.
According to the Syracuse Police Department, Officer James Layne attempted to stop the vehicle Lightner was driving because she was allegedly speeding on CR 1300N. Lightner reportedly refused to stop for Layne and continued to speed until she reached the intersection of CR 1300N and Old Ind. 15. There, she failed to negotiate a turn, lost control of her vehicle and clipped a utility pole before crashing in a house at 1005 Old Ind. 15.
The residence, owned by Cheryl Chaplin, was evacuated during the 3:52 a.m. incident because the accident also resulted in the gas meter there being torn from the ground and power lines being pulled down.
Milford Fire Department and Milford Emergency Medical Service assisted at the scene and the accident report, which was not available this morning, is being completed by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
