Macy man charged

after November pursuit

A Macy man is charged with resisting law enforcement and possession of pot after leading a police pursuit in November.

Scott L. Barber, 35, of 3241 E. CR 1500N, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:13 p.m. Nov. 17 and faces a Level 6 felony charge of resisting law enforcement using a vehicle and a Class B misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on Nov. 17 around 3 p.m. a Claypool police officer was traveling south on Ind. 15 approaching CR 300W near the McClure gas station when he noticed a white Ford Taurus traveling in the same direction weaving from side to side in the lane.

As the car turned onto CR 300W, the officer activated his police lights. According to court papers, the car stopped at the stop sign on CR 950S, turned left and stopped. When the officer began to exit his patrol car, the Taurus sped off and refused to stop. The pursuit reached speeds near 100 mph, the probable cause affidavit states, with Barber running several stop signs throughout the chase. The vehicle eventually stopped at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, 9198 W. 1000S, Akron.

Barber was identified as the driver, and, according to court papers, police found a black bag in the trunk of the Taurus that contained marijuana.

Barber’s bond was set at $5,250.

Goshen woman faces

battery, mischief counts

A Goshen woman is in jail for allegedly punching her adult daughter in the head and slashing her tires.

Melissa A. Johnson, 40, Goshen, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:11 p.m. Wednesday and faces charges of domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a Level 6 felony; domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor; and criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.

According to the police report, at 8:42 p.m. Oct. 24, 2018, Warsaw police responded to a report of criminal mischief at a home where a woman said her mother had just come and slashed the tires to her vehicle.

The woman told police that Johnson has been mad and trying to say the vehicle was hers. Johnson allegedly texted her daughter and said she is coming to get the vehicle and, “I?will show you what trying to f*** me over earns you,” according to court papers.

The woman told police when Johnson showed up at her house, she was yelling and banging on the front door, then left and went over to the vehicle and the woman “saw Johnson kneel down by the rear tire and then kneel down by the front tire.” Johnson then got into a car that was parked nearby and drove away. Both tires that Johnson were near soon went flat, according to the police report.

Police called Johnson and asked for her to call them back. She never did.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed March 12, 2019, on March 3, 2019, Warsaw police responded to a report of a battery that happened at Marsh Supermarket. Johnson’s daughter told police she had gone to the market to sell a blanket to an individual and that her mother, Johnson, was with the person she was selling the blanket to. According to court papers, Johnson approached her daughter, a verbal argument ensued and then Johnson punched her daughter in the head with a closed fist.

The woman’s children were in the backseat of the vehicle, court papers state.

Johnson’s bond was set at $3,000. She’s expected in court at 1 p.m. today.
