An Etna Green man was jailed after allegedly causing an accident while intoxicated and attacking two medics who tried to help him at the scene.

According to a report from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Brian A. Moriarty, 27, of 120 W. Broadway St., Etna Green, collided with  Sharon K. Gaff, 63, North Penny Drive, Warsaw, on Old 30, about 1,100 feet west of Riverwood Ranch Road near Warsaw Friday around 10:19 p.m.

Pierceton Home Destroyed By Fire

PIERCETON – A home in rural Pierceton was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.

According to Sidney Fire Chief Craig Wagoner, crews responded to a report of a basement fire at 7846 E. CR 800S, Pierceton, around 12:50 a.m. Saturday.

Sidney Fire Department was the lead department for Saturday’s blaze.

The home is owned by Tammi Mazura.

According to Wagoner, when firefighters arrived they were unable to aggressively fight the blaze as the first floor had caved in.

It took crews about three hours to get the fire under control and they were at the scene for about six hours.

Nobody was hurt in the fire, though Wagoner estimated the damage to the home at a total loss.

Wagoner said a mother and daughter were home at the time but were able to escape and that a son arrived home as crews were working.

American Red Cross was on the scene providing assistance to firefighters and also helping the family with living arrangements and financial assistance.

Wagoner said the only thing in the basement is a wood-burning stove, though he wouldn’t say that was the cause.
The fire remains under investigation.

Pierceton Fire Department assisted at the scene as did Chester Township and Cleveland Township assisted with water. Multi-Township EMS was also on the scene.
