Eighteen trailers at Jellystone Campground in Pierceton were broken into Monday night and three suspects are in custody after a police pursuit that took authorities into Whitley County.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Capt. and Public Information Officer Chris McKeand said this morning that the campground staff got a tip Monday night that trailers were being burglarized.
At 11 p.m., the KCSD received a call about possible burglaries in progress at the Pierceton campground from the staff.
One suspect, Kenneth Sanchez, 19, of Converse, was still on the property and was taken into custody at 1916 N. CR 850E, Pierceton, according to a news release from the KCSD.
The two other suspects fled the scene and led police on a pursuit, which ended in a crash on U.S. 30 near CR 300W in Whitley County. The two men were not injured in the crash and were taken into custody.
The driver of the vehicle that fled was identified as Michael Chapman, 28, Converse. The passenger in the fleeing vehicle was identified as Thomas Ankrom, 29, Converse.
All three suspects were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail between 1:29 and 2:14 a.m. today. Preliminary bonds were set at $5,250 for Chapman; $750 for Ankrom; and $450 for Sanchez, according to booking information.
KCSD was assisted by the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department; North Webster, Pierceton, Warsaw and Columbia City police departments; and the Indiana State Police.
