The third time was a charm for Miss Mentone 1997. After two previous attempts, Dawn Marie Poe (R) was chosen the winner Saturday in Mentone's Pageant, which was part of the town's annual Egg Festival. Kathleen Maria Castillo was named first runner-up. Below, the covered wagon sponsored by Hedington Horse Shoeing won first place in the parade's horse- drawn category in rainy conditions.
