Mila’s Mini Market, a Mexican restaurant in Marshall County, was declared the winner of the Taco Wars contest among seven counties that make up “Indiana’s Cool North.”

The Taco Wars popularity contest kicked off July 21 with 70 of the top taco restaurants across the region and was a joint initiative of the Northern Indiana Tourism Development Commission and its member convention and visitor bureaus.

Mila’s Mini Market is known for its authentic Mexican tacos and received strong support from the Plymouth community. Throughout the contest, Mila’s offered up several customer appreciation events and other secondary promotions to thank their loyal customers for their support, according to a news release from the tourism commission.

Also winning some acclaim was Los Aces Mexican Food of South Bend, which won the critic’s choice by food critic Marshall King.

Among the seven competitors was Taco Jalisico, a food truck that operates along North Detroit Street in Warsaw.

Others participating finalists were WoodFire Meat Market, Valparaiso; Cabo’s Ice Cream Shop and Cafe, Michigan City; Los Primos Mexican Grill, Goshen, and Courtside Restaurant and Lounge, LaGrange.
