Plummer to Serve as Warsaw Parks Super

Posted
Larry Plummer will serve as Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department’s new parks superintendent.

Mayor-elect Joe Thallemer made the appointment.

Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety will need to approve Plummer’s salary at its Dec. 16 meeting.

Plummer’s duties as parks superintendent are effective Jan. 1.

Plummer will replace Jon Garber as parks superintendent, who resigned and whose duties will end Jan. 1.

Garber has served with the department for 43 years ; nine years part-time from 1968-1975 while in high school, and from May 1978 to Aug. 1978 for summer employment part-time while attending Indiana University graduate school.

Garber worked full-time for the parks department from 1976-1977 through the Community Education Training Act; and worked as a full-time assistant parks superintendent from 1979-1988; and from 1989-Jan. 1, 2012, as parks superintendent.

In 1984, Plummer began his career with the city working as a groundskeeper at Oakwood Cemetery and then in the park maintenance department.

For the past 21 years, he has worked as the Assistant Superintendent and Park Director, responsible for park maintenance.
“Larry has been a great leader in the department.”  Thallemer said.

“His work ethic is unmatched and he has good visionary skills and I am pleased to announce his appointment,” Thallemer said.
