PIERCETON - Pleasant Guy "Skeet" Stickler, 88, of Pierceton, passed away at 3 a.m. Jan. 4, 2008, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born Feb. 24, 1919, in Peabody, to Henry Otto and Leta Herran Stickler. On Aug. 10, 1947, he married his beloved Edith M. Bowman, who preceded him in death Oct. 29, 1997.

He was born and raised in the Columbia City area and served five years in the Army during World War II. He had a wonderful and thankful life.

"For those who knew me, I truly appreciate your acquaintance and friendship. For those that didn't know me was my misfortune and regret. As for thoughts of flowers please take your best friend out for a nice evening dinner and have good thoughts of memories gone by."

Pleasant Guy Stickler, known by the name of Guy to most in the Pierceton area, had lived here since receiving an honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant from the Army of the United States. He served his country from 1941 to 1946 during World War II in England, France, Germany, Belgium and the Ardenz Campaign.

He owned and operated the Standard Oil Station in Pierceton for many years. He built a gas station in Larwill in 1950. Being a stock buyer, he built stockyards in Clunette and Bippus.

In 1966, he built Stickler Moblie Home Park. He was a member of Pierceton Masonic Lodge 377 for 50 years, a member of the American Legion 258, Pierceton, and the American Legion Post 098 in Columbia City.

Surviving are two daughters, Leta M. Perry, Columbia City, and Laura M. McKee, Kendalville; eight grandchildren: Michelle, Jacob, Jerod, Emily, Megan, David, Sandra and Victoria; four great-grandchildren: Katie, Dawson, Jeremiah and Jordan. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton with pastor Steve Mullins officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton with military honors by the American Legion Legion Post 258 and Post 098.
