Judy O'Bannon plants a 'reading tree' at the Warsaw Community Public Library Thursday. O'Bannon also made stops in Wabash to plant a reading tree in the city park and in Elkhart to speak at the annual Consortium of State and Local Human Rights Agencies. O'Bannon wants to emphasize the importance of adults taking an active role in helping children learn to read. Over the last several weeks, O'Bannon has traveled the state to plant reading trees in communities that are participating in the Hoosier Millennium Initiative, which she chairs. In addition to giving her a chance to talk about her husband's Ready to Read program, the trees also have offered an opportunity to highlight local reading initiatives.
