BOURBON - Plans for a new school in Bourbon were revealed Monday at the Bourbon Board of Zoning Appeals meeting.
A special-use permit to allow construction of the private school north of town limits on Ind. 331 will be required, and a hearing on the matter is set for 8 p.m. April 28 in the town hall.
The school will be called the Bourbon Christian School and is being built by the Clay Street Amish Mennonite Church. The 15,700-square-foot school will be for students in elementary through junior high.
The area is zoned suburban and construction of the pole-type building will require a special-use permit before the plans are submitted for state approval.
In other matters, the BZA granted a variance for Dave and Penny Carpenter, 107 W. Jefferson St., allowing reduction of the side yard setback from 15 to 5 feet for construction of a swimming pool.
Another variance to be considered was withdrawn by Todd and Kara Lemler because of a recently enacted ordinance governing manufactured housing. The home the Lemlers planned to purchase would not have been allowed; they will instead buy a home that meets town codes and will not require a variance.
