Plans For Cemetery Historic Walk Are Moving Forward

Plans for the historic walk at Oakwood Cemetery are going really well, sexton Hal Heagy told the Board of Regents Thursday.
He said a lot of the stuff has been taken care of. The committee has worked on a lot of the script for the actors during the walk.
Currently, the walk is set for June 27.
Heagy said he has to work on a couple things to get a memorial wall set up in the cemetery chapel.
During April’s meeting, Heagy said military personnel will be portrayed during the walk. He estimated there are over 4,000 veterans buried at the cemetery, so he said not all of those people could be portrayed during this year’s walk.
Thursday, Heagy said he wants people to be able to put things on the memorial wall to honor veterans in their family. He said the cemetery wants to honor all veterans, but couldn’t portray them all during the walk in June.
In other business, the board heard:
• Landscaping at the Warsaw Police Department has been completed.
• Block work in front of the cemetery shop is complete. Heagy said some asphalting work has to be done.
• The fruit and vegetable garden will be starting soon with the planting of seeds and some plant starts. Heagy said this year, it will be expanded to be a citywide garden and some of the produce will be donated to The Salvation Army.
• The Street Department brought in some equipment to help develop some of the Parsons Farm area of the cemetery. Heagy said most of the sod has been stripped in that area.
