NORTH MANCHESTER - Manchester Town Council president Dan Rinearson announced Wednesday that North Manchester police are finally being paid what they deserve.

After approving the 2004 salary ordinance, all salary increases for town personnel were approved, and Rinearson said all departments stayed within allotted budgets.

The police department, which traditionally has been "non-competitive" in the salary department, received raises that bring their average salary into the same range as officers of the Wabash County Sheriff's Department. Manchester officers actually are expected to earn slightly more this year than county deputies. Their year's pay may top county pay by $80-$100 per officer per year.

The North Manchester Town Council will have a final meeting of the year Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Public Safety Building.

Town council members are Karl Merritt, Warren Garner, Nancy Reed, Stan Escott, Bill Hix and Don Rinearson. Town manager is Dan Hannaford; town attorney is Charles Tiede.
