Editor, Times-Union: With the recent Susan G. Komen Foundation/Planned Parenthood funding issue we have been, once again, hearing from the media about all the great services that Planned Parenthood supposedly offers to help women. Unfortunately, as usual, the media doesn’t report the negative.
The media fails to report on the fact that originally Planned Parenthood claimed to be doing mammograms. But last spring calls were made to 30 Planned Parenthood centers in 27 states. Every Planned Parenthood, without exception, told the women calling that they would have to go elsewhere for a mammogram, and many clinics admitted that no Planned Parenthood clinics provide this procedure. So, Planned Parenthood had to back track on this claim.
Planned Parenthood has been caught numerous times ignoring mandatory reporting laws for statutory rape. The organization continues to aid incest and child sexual abuse by failing to report alleged sexual abuse of underage girls to authorities thus perpetuating the incestual and abusive relationships.
There have been numerous reports of women who have been injured or died from botched medical and surgical abortions taking place in Planned Parenthood facilities.
Planned Parenthood claims it is for women having a choice. But the organization fights every attempt by states to require its abortionists to provide more information to women so they can make an informed choice.
Planned Parenthood is not hurting for money. It recently spent $35 million on office space in New York City. On top of the fact that it received $158 million from abortion services in its 2009-2010 fiscal year (51 percent of clinic income), Planned Parenthood receives $350 million of our tax dollars every year. But that doesn’t seem to be enough as the organization has been investigated for Medicaid fraud in a number of states including New Jersey, California and Texas.
If you look below the surface, Planned Parenthood isn’t the great organization that it would like people to believe. And, no matter how it tries to promote itself, it is still making money off the killing of unborn babies and the mental and physical pain and suffering of women.
