LEESBURG - Weather forecasts for northern Indiana call for a wetter than normal winter.
The Plain Township Advisory Board hopes precipitation comes in the form of rain in December, because they don't have a snow removal contract in place yet for the new township administration building and fire/EMS station at Baseline and Armstrong roads.
Board member Craig Charleton said Todd Kammerer expressed an interest in doing the snow removal, but the board would like more quotes from other snow removal services.
"We can let Todd do it, if necessary, through December, and, hopefully, we'll get some more quotes in by the January meeting," he said.
Anyone interested in submitting a bid on the snow removal, to include plowing and clearing the sidewalks, is requested to contact trustee Don Boggs at 453-3749.
In other business, Boggs informed the board the final payment of $24,293 for the administration building was paid to Hoeppner Inc., the general contractor for the building project.
Charleton said the fire department has received the new Scott AirPack breathing units. The units will increase safety by improving communication between firemen while they are in a burning structure, he said.
"The voice amplifiers on the air mask work great and make it much easier for the guys to hear when they are in a fire," Charleton said.
Other features that increase the safety of the units include an audible alarm that activates when a firemen goes down, making it easier to find him in a fire, he added.
The next meeting of the advisory board, which includes Jerry Kammerer, Craig Charleton, Martha Mayer and trustee Don Boggs, will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Plain Township Administration Building.
