LEESBURG - The Plain Township Board appointed a new EMS director Tuesday.
"I think it should be someone within the EMS department," chairman Jerry Kammerer said.
Kammerer motioned appointment of Cathy Rapp as the new EMS director.
"I'm all for it," board member Martha Mayer said.
"She's easy to communicate with," new trustee Claudia Archer said. "She's taught me a lot in one week already."
The board unanimously agreed and approved Cathy Rapp as the new EMS director.
In other business:
Terry Eppley, chief of the Plain Township Fire Department, presented the board with a letter he received concerning OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Association) respirator fit testing. OSHA wants to make sure firemen are physically fit. The board decided to do more research on this topic before any decisions were made.
With the fire department being a volunteer organization, it is questionable whether the testing is required for them.
Eppley also requested approval from the board for purchases, including four sections of 1-3/4-inch hose, a fiberglass-handled ax to place on the back of the new tanker and a replacement for the old van.
Craig Charlton, board secretary, said that in the past they replaced one of the vehicles every five years.
But we got a little "out of sync," Eppley said. The board is now trying to bring that routine back into play.
Both of Eppley's requests were approved.
Cathy and Dave Rapp requested input from the board on final decisions concerning the purchase of a new ambulance.
Final decisions included where to get a cot for the ambulance, what the interior color for the ambulance would be, removal of a cabinet in the rear and purchasing a power-electric lift for the oxygen tank.
The board gave final approval Tuesday on the bid from Rolland Specialty Vehicles and Products Inc.
The ambulance bid is $133,889. The board approved buying the oxygen power lift, which will place an additional $1,500 on the bid.
Cathy Rapp said she will continue to shop around for a cot. She estimated the cost to be less than $3,000.
Delivery of the ambulance can be expected in May or June.
