PIERCETON – Pierceton Cub Scout Troop 3761 and Boy Scout Troop 761 are collecting items to take to tornado victims in Moore, Okla., at the end of the week. Amy Meadows, whose husband Scott is a scout leader, said this morning it was a family decision to help tornado victims and the two troops also became involved. Scout members will be loading and sorting donations and a few will be going to Moore to unload. “The scouts are really excited about this, they’re really glad to help,” Amy Meadows said. “We also want to thank the community for helping us. Without the community we can’t do things like this.” Needed items are clothes, shoes, socks, blankets, toiletries, diapers, first-aid items such as adhesive bandages, water and perishable foods, laundry soap, shampoo and body soap, batteries and dog and cat food. Donations can be dropped off at the Pierceton-Washington Township Park until Friday evening. They are collecting from 5 to 9 p.m. each night. Cash donations are also being accepted and a few scouts will use that to shop for needed items. Donations are being loaded into a semi-truck trailer currently parked at Pierceton Ballpark. The Meadows plan to drive the trailer to Oklahoma this weekend if it is full enough.
