Pierceton Vacates 2 Streets

Posted

PIERCETON - Street vacation requests tabled last month were approved Monday by the Pierceton Town Council.

Charlie Wright had asked the council to close Pine Street in Beyers Addition because narrow lot sizes constrict building there.

Council members in September said they wanted to get public input in the matter and pointed out that Wright needed to advertise the proposed closing in the newspaper. The latter requirement was met, and no remonstrance occurred at the meeting.

Jack Phillips' bid to vacate a portion of Church Street (now Tulip Street) was also permitted. The platted street was never developed and dead-ends at U.S. 30; the town had no plans to extend it or develop it.

Along with Phillips' request, the council vacated a portion of Grant Street, which also is landlocked and unusable as a road. That request came from a group of neighbors in the area.

In other business, the council announced that leaf pickup is under way and will continue through Nov. 27.

Residents are asked to place leaves as close to the road as possible, but away from utility poles, signs, mailboxes and other roadside items that might hinder collection.

The pickup schedule is:

• Monday - East of Ind. 13 and south of Market Street.

• Tuesday - West of Ind. 13 and south of Market Street.

• Thursday - North of Market Street.

Pickup is for leaves only; leaf piles containing trash or branches will not be picked up.

The next meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in the community building.
