PIERCETON - George Alexander tendered his resignation as town marshal, effective immediately, three hours prior to a special 5 p.m. town council meeting to discuss personnel matters Thursday.
"Instead of having more embarrassment to me or my family or to the Town of Pierceton for my mistake of trying to have fun with the public," Alexander's letter to the town council reads, "I request that you accept my retirement from the Pierceton Police Department effective immediately."
Board members Jerry Kreger, Terry Hill and Ron Hall unanimously accepted the resignation.
"On behalf of the town council and residents of Pierceton, I want to thank George Alexander for his service to the community, and we wish him well," Kreger said.
At Monday's regular town council meeting, a teen-age girl, her mother and a local resident came forward during the public meeting, describing recent encounters with Alexander while he was in uniform.
The May incidents described by Mary and Kayla Espinosa and Dale Alley mark the third time in three years complaints have been filed against Alexander.
He was suspended without pay for one month last year from an incident involving a teenage waitress Aug. 1. He also received a private reprimand in July 2001.
